    Ferrara was established in 1892 when Enrico Scoppa and Antonio Ferrara opened a cafe called Café A. Ferrara to satisfy a need for a place where opera lovers could relax and play a Neapolitan card game called “Scopa” while enjoying espresso. After World War I, Peter married the daughter of Enrico Scoppa and transformed the little neighborhood cafe into a famous shrine where one could enjoy exquisite flavors. In order to minimize waste during the tough times of the 1929 Depression, they began baking small batches of cookies and cakes multiple times a day, developing a great reputation for selling fresh products that allowed Ferrara to grow and prosper. Today, Ferrara is still a family owned and operated business, led by the family’s fifth generation, who continues to operated Ferrara with the same spirit that has successfully led the business throughout its history.
