Manfredi Barbera was only five years old when his grandfather, Manfredi Senior, introduced him to the family business of olive oil production. Manfredi Barbera grew up visiting the farmers of Olio Barbera, working in the family mill, and spending summers in the oil mill learning directly from his grandfather Manfredi Senio, son of Olio Barbera’s founder. Immersed in the family business, Manfredi Barbera was struck by inspiration, and became determined to channel his love for Sicily and creative passion into a line of products he could call distinctly his. Once he finalized his affectionate tribute to the work of his ancestors, he officially established Frantoia, named for the feminine name for an oil press in order to honor the artistry and passion for olive oils production as well as the motherland where the olives are cultivated from. Since its founding, Frantoia’s quintessential Sicilian extra virgin olive oil has earned it a place as an ambassador of Sicilian oil in the world.
