In 1888 two brothers established a farm just outside of Palermo that was dedicated to the cultivation of olives and citrus fruits. Those brothers, Lorenzo and Vincenzo Barbera, partnered with the Florio family to found the Society of Sicilian Oil Producers several years later, which was dedicated to producing high quality oils and was able to swiftly tap into foreign markets. In 1910 the torch was passed Manfredi Senior, as he led the company with the marketing of the world’s first glass-bottled oils and the creation of unfiltered “must” oil. Currently, Manfredi, Manfredi Senior’s grandson, is heading the company and is considered one of the leading olive oil experts of the world. Manfredi, and Barbera as a whole, makes use of the over 100 years of experience with growing olives and producing award winning olive oil to continue innovating and producing high quality oils, maintaining their place as one of the world leaders for olive oil production.
