Kontos was founded in 1987 in Paterson, N.J., by Evripides (Evris) Kontos and is son steve, who worked together to revolutionize flatbreads. They accomplished this by hand-stretching their loaves, which produces bread that is fluffier and more flexible than bread produced with sheeters. The bread was so popular that Kontos' product line has continued to grow to this day, with approximately 50 varieties available now, and multiple family members joining Evripides and his son Steve to help maintain this family-run company.
