Mexican Cheese Producers, Inc. was founded in 1994 by Miguel & Martina Leal, originally of Irapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico. Miguel first began making cheese as part of an Amish Cheese Factory Co-op in Ohio, where he would produce American type cheese in the morning and in the afternoon Miguel would work on his own recipe. Through this process, Miguel made 60lb wheels of Queso Cotija cheese, also known as the parmesan of Mexico, and would drive them to Chicago twice a week to sell his Cotija wheels to the produce and meat wholesalers in the city's famous Water Market District. Through this practice, the Mexican Cheese Producers, Inc. products began to be recognized for their quality, and over the years MCP would continue growing and upgrading to newer and better factories while growing their presence in the market of the Eastern United States. To this day Mexican Cheese Producers, Inc. has remained committed to offering only the finest quality products on the market.
